About Dr. Nisha Mehta-Naik

Dr. Nisha Mehta-Naik is a psychiatrist and psychotherapist in private practice in New York City. She is a graduate of Northwestern University for both undergraduate college and medical school. She completed residency training in Psychiatry at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medicine, where she served as a Chief Resident in her final year. 

Following residency, Dr. Mehta-Naik completed fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medicine.  She was named an American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) Honors Scholar. She developed an academic focus in geriatric life transitions, has published a book chapter on the topic, and also presented her work at national conferences (AAGP, APA).  

After fellowship, Dr. Mehta-Naik joined the full time faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medicine. While on full-time faculty, she developed Rockefeller University Mental Health services, where she served as an on-site psychiatrist for Rockefeller University. She was also a psychiatrist in the Weill Cornell medical and graduate student mental health program, while maintaining a part-time private practice. Dr. Mehta-Naik remained actively involved in medical student and residency education, teaching on topics of physician wellness, geriatric psychiatry, and psychotherapy. She was the Co-Director of the Education Subcommittee for the Department of Psychiatry's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Council, through which she developed multidisciplinary DEI educational initiatives.  

Dr. Mehta-Naik is now in full time private practice in Manhattan.  She is on voluntary faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine, where she continues to teach and supervise psychiatry residents. She is currently an advanced candidate in Adult Psychoanalysis at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research.

Dr. Mehta-Naik's practice prioritizes an individualized and collaborative treatment approach for adults across the lifespan, including psychotherapy, medication management or both. She has specific areas of expertise in geriatric psychiatry, life transitions, retirement and retirement decision-making, grief, cultural psychiatry, career development, and coping with stress in careers in science and medicine.
